Came by before a concert. The food is really good HOWEVER come with extra time on your hands because it took the wait staff (emphasis on the word wait) took ten minute to take our order or come to the table. There were four people at the counter area who knew we were there and just chatted, ate and then finally the unsmiling waitress took our order. They are usually on the money here but service today wasn't good. The food is still good though so I will come back and call this one a fluke...

Great authentic Colombian food! Our servers were polite and professional. Very clean and peaceful ambience.

Nice authentic Colombian restaurant and bakery. The food is tasty, the decor is modern and nice. My rating is solely on take-out orders, I have tried the Bandeja steak which consists of chicharron (crispy pork skin), a thin steak, rice, beans, avocado, plantains, and a fried egg - it was very good but the steak was too thin for my preference. I have also tried the empanadas, the Pandebono (cheese bread), and chicken criolla which is seasoned chicken breast served with rice, beans, salad and plantains. The food is good, the menu is small. I've had better Colombian, if you are in the area definitely check it out but don't go out of your way.

Dora it seme like there are too many Colombian restaurant option? This place will simplify things for you. The best service, best food, no wait and great location. Tough to improve on Las Orquideas. My favorite is Huevos pericos after a bike ride with an Arepa con choclo . Try the lulo, best juice you have never tried

Being a Colombian myself, I can say when Colombian food is good and this restaurant cooked delicious food! It was up to my grandmas standards. My husband had a Bandeja Paisa, which has rice, steak, fried egg, fried pork rind, avocado, sweet plantains, and beans. Yes, it's a lot of food, so prepare to go into a food coma. The dish was great, especially the beans. They were well done and the flavor was on point. I had sopa de Mondogo (beef cow tripe soup). It takes a special hand to know how to cook tripe and Las Orquidas did a great job cooking the tripe. Before coming here I was craving this soup and having it, cured my craving. Very happy to say the least with no complaints to say. They also have live music Friday's and Saturday's playing traditional Colombian boleros. Very lovely. Las Orquidas is also a bakery and make traditional Colombian goods for breakfast. I haven't tried the breads yet, but I will given our dinner was delicious. And for the reasons above, I rate this restaurant 5 stars!

From the waitress' welcoming smile to the tasty cafe con leche to my Calentado and Huevos Pericos this place is awesome!! Very tasty and filling, a great reminder of my days in Bogota. Love it here!

I use to live in Ft. Lauderdale and took this place for granted. Amazing food, welcoming atmosphere. The bakery is excellent as well as the rest of the menu. Sundays were my favorite, they have excellent soup. Highly recommend this little jewel.

This restaurant is kind of hidden although it's on Federal Hwy. It's average in my opinion. I ordered the churrasco and although it was good, it wasn't amazing and to get a 5 star review I would want amazing. I grew up in Miami so I've had a damn good steak before. I would definitely recommend this place and enjoyed my meal. I looked around and noticed it was clean and the staff was very nice.

Solid Columbian breakfast -- everything we ordered was hot, tasty, authentic, and well made. Super yum! Cafe con leche was smooth and creamy and ultra flavorful. Breakfast comes with coffee and crispy arepa with cheese. We will be back!

I loved this place. I ordered the Bistec al Caballo and was amazed. I ordered the yucca and patacones as sides. Everything was great. The Bistec al Caballo was so delicious. Loved the table salsa as well. A good level of spice and a little vinegary after taste. It went great with my order. They also have an assortment of fresh tropical juices. The restaurant is clean and a nice atheistic atmosphere. When I checked in on Yelp, I saw the 4.5 average rating this place had...and they deserve it. Enjoy! I wish I took a picture before I dug in. Sorry, Yelpers.

A very "gringo" friendly Columbian/Latin American Restaurant, spotlessly clean, roomy, decent up to date décor, with a top flight wait staff. The food is also very tasty, and portions are good size. Upon the recommendation of my waitress I had the churrasco steak ($12.99) with came with my choice of three sides. The steak was served upon a very hot cast iron skillet (nice touch) with wood holder a bed of red onions and at my request the waitress added some of their special chimichurri sauce. For sides, I had the sweet plantain, beans and a salad with some of the salad dressing that the waitress told me that she prepares. All in all, it was a very nice meal and an overall pleasant experience. One minor fault but one that did strike a nerve with me, fussy prick that I am, was that for a place literally named "the orchids" I was disappointed in that I failed to see an orchid in the place; not even a phony one. I mean really now! Sheeze! What a horrid let down, but I'll get over it and stop bitching about the fact within four or five years from now. The menu is also very complete with just about anything one would expect from a restaurant specializing in Columbian/Latin American cuisine. They also have a website which is, generally speaking, far better than the websites of most other area restaurants.

Great service and delicioso! Lengua was great and the pollo empanizado was very flavorful. Love the guy in the corner singing for all of us...so cozy!

Probably the best empanadas in Broward. They're tiny but packed with flavor and always fresh! Ate an early dinner and loved their chicken dish with the passion fruit sauce. Sweet but not overly sweet.. Would probably enjoy with a glass of wine rather than soda or ice tea (due to the sweetness). The soup was equally delicious and the ox tail's meat fell right off the bone. Prices are reasonable and will be back :)

AMAZING FOOD!! I love Colombian food, and this place is fantastic! We loved the empanadas, the Colombian beer, the tongue and the grilled chicken. Be sure to pick up lots of bakery items to go! The service was very friendly and accommodating too... This restaurant is family-friendly in that it offers booths and tables unlike some of the smaller cafés. Loved it!!

Now that I am up "north" (in Atlanta), I really miss the easy access to Latin comfort food in south FL. Las Orquideas was only a couple of blocks from where I briefly lived in Fort Laudy and I made it a point to stop by every other week or so (otherwise the good food makes a guest, then permanent appearance on my thighs). I like buñuelos just as much as the next guy (or gal), but the thing that made me fall in love with this small Colombian bakery/restaurant was the pandebono! Ay Diosito Mio, qué riquera! There have been occasions in which I eat about 3 or 4 of these things, to replace a meal. I figure since they are made with yuca flour and cheese, they give me carbohydrates and protein (and fat); thus these little rolls could sustain human life on their own. I've had the meat pastries, and the empanadas are really good, as are the croquettes and stuffed potatoes and yuca. The hot sauce that they serve alongside the pastries is HOT, but in the best possible way. Pica y repica, mi gente. If food isn't enough for you, stop by to see the cage full of canaries. I stop by this place whenever I make a trip down to Miami. It's that worth it.

Authentic Columbia food! I went there with my Colombian friend for a late lunch. We sat outside since it was a nice sunny day too! This place has great food and its very clean. We go the avena to drink; it's a sweet oatmeal drink and its refreshing. We had the tostones as a side order and I got the pollo alla plancha. The serving are a good size; they're not overly huge. Everything was great! Nothing was dry or overcooked. I highly recommend this place for amazing Colombian food.

Not fancy but great food. The owner makes you feel welcomed. It is always very clean. Portions are big, be ready to feast. Love the Bandeja Paisa. There is a feeling of not being in Fort Lauderdale but in a Colombian town. Que Rrrrrrico...

I was stoked to finally dine at Las Orquideas, on the East side of US1 in fantastic Fort Lauderdale. Stopped in for lunch and started our visit with Cafe con Leche. We had the Bandeja steak dish, complete with a pork strip, rice, red beans, avocado wedge, plantains, and topped with an egg. The Churrasco steak came out sizzling and cooked as reuqested (medium) along with onions and tomato slices. Topped with Chimmichuri sauce, everything was delisioso! Our waiter also noted it was our first visit, and brought us some complimentary empanadas to try and wow, they were excellent. I tried their signature salad dressing and salsa, and both were tasty as well. I'm eating my small plate of leftovers right now ... and my stove was smiling as the savory flavors simmered once again. There is a lot to choose from on their menu, including some amazing desserts (blackberry or passion fruit mouse, tres leches, flan, and a few more) as well as fresh fruit juices made with water or milk, as per your preference. I tried the Jugo de Lugo prepped with agua, and it was a nice treat from the ordinary. Lugo is a kiwi-like fruit- if you don't know now you know. I can't wait to return for their fresh pastries, and a passion fruit juice, a game of futbol on the big screen, and whatever else i'm in the mood for. Priced right, just try everything at this fresh and bright establishment. Gracias amor!

I Love Colombian bakeries, slightly less than French/Italian/Spanish bakeries. They serve hot food here in addition to finger goodies. Food is ok, not great. I had the chicken with passion fruit sauce: chicken was dry but the sauce was good, it came with beans, rice, tostadas. Price is slightly above average considering there are tons of LatAm restaurants in the area that can serve the same food at 60% of the price. The Pandebono (cheese bread) was great (you can't screw it up), i think i am coming back JUST for the pandebono.

  • Derek L.

Standard Colombian fare at a little too high of a price than some similar Latin Restaurants in the area. I spent $35 bucks for two people, big glass of fresh mango juice, two empanadas (muy pequenas), the sancochado de gallina was the highlight for me; wonderfully flavored soup with yuca and potatoes served with a huge plate of rice, salad, and a chicken leg/breast. There was a wonderful salsa picante on the table that I would go back for. I left feeling very full with thought of when I will return.

Have to go on Wednesday when they have the plantain soup!!! It is the best ever!!! There empanadas are the best and there chili sauce that is kept on the table is out of this world!! Great food and good service!!!!

I stumbled upon Orquideas while I was waiting for my Orthodontic appointment. It's a minute away, I wanted breakfast; why not? Inside, it's insanely clean --- I don't think I've ever walked into a restaurant that's as polished as Orquideas; and this is a Colombian joint located in a remote shopping plaza. The bathroom smelled like a thousand 'Orquideas', so I figure that's where the owner is referring Orquideas to. There's a counter where you can buy pastries, as well as a selection of Colombian delicacies, and always, the ever so graciously cashiers/servers willing to assist. The service was astonishingly great, but, then again, I was the only one in there. I was treated like royalty --- not to be confused with a 5-star dining bib-on-your-neck --- but curiously served. My waitress offered suggestions, informed me of their daily special, and was spot-on knowing that I hadn't the slightest clue of Colombian cuisine. I opted out on any lunch and decided to go with a Carne a la Plancha, and a cup of fresh-squeezed Orange juice. The Carne a la plancha came with an arepa, which, I figure is a wonted 'extra' to make the dish complete. I haven't had an arepa in ages, in fact, I figured it was a Venezuelan thing (don't call Farc on me), but thankfully Wikipedia served just. Breakfast was tasty. Such a shame that I stopped by during breakfast, I'm sure there's more to offer at Las Orquideas. I'm not too wary of Colombian establishments in Fort Lauderdale, but if you want some Colombian, then I recommend this spot.

I am not Columbian and you don't need to be to enjoy this welcoming restaurant. Bright, freindly with a great selection on the menu. It is clearly a family business and they treat their customers as an extension of the family. Food is very, very good and you will never leave this restaurant hungry. Looking forward to a return visit.

One of the worst restaurant I've ever eaten in. I can't make up my mind which is worse the food or the service. Totally unfriendly staff. Bad food. Few good choices! Other than that the ambiance is absolutely ridiculous it's like eating in a barn. It was a total waste of time and money I hope I don't get sick. Stay away.

I still go to this place about once every week or two and still love love love it. By now the owner and servers know us and are all so sweet. My son eats everything off his plate every time we eat here, which makes me happy. The chimmichurri is homemade and great. The pan de bono is so gooooood. The homemade hot sauce/salsa on the tables is one of the best I've ever had, so much fresh flavor and a nice heat. They have expanded so I'm happy they are doing well.

Las Orquideas (The Orchids) is a very decent Colombian restaurant on Federal Hwy. Clean and well-appointed -- glassed dessert counter up front; lots of light woods; bright wall artwork of orchids (thus, the name, I presume). Sort of reminded me of a Starbucks or Storks, but brighter. All our orders were entirely fine. The jaw-dropper was a side order of some bacon-like meat (I can't recall the proper name) that looked primordial, to say the least! (Another person at the table said it looked like a spine. I thought it was like something out of "The Flinstones." Hehe!) The wait staff was extremely friendly -- one guy in particular was EXTREMELY friendly!!! (poor guy was so happy to see some Wilton Manors' folks!) -- with prompt service. If I could give it 3-1/2 stars, that'd be it, as it's certainly better than simply "A-OK"; although, I'm not quite at the "Yay! I'm a fan" stage just yet. I'll followup on a revisit soon.... (There's also a Las Orquideas Spa next door, and they also do some "multi-servicing," as well. It's a Colombian enterprise they've got going there...!)

AUTHENTIC COLOMBIAN COOKING - Between the food, the decor, the service, and the customers, you could be in Colombia. I don't think it's anything to rave about, but if you're feeling homesick for Colombia, this place is the cure.

My husband and I randomly stopped here to see what was on the menu. New ordered the Taco Trio special. The food was amazingly fresh and cooked from s ratch. The flavored were amazing. We also had all three amazing sauces. I will definitively go back for more.

Delicious food, excellent and friendly service (thanks, Andres!), and an attractive restaurant. Yes, it was our first time at a Colombian restaurant, but what's not to love here?

  • Steve L.

Set up more like a clean bright café than a restaurant, with fresh house-made pastries greeting you in the case as you come in. A lot of local Columbians drop in for a quick bite. The food is solid, tasty and uncomplicated. People looking for "exotic" might end up disappointed, though there are hints of the unusual some dishes. The fruit drinks though definitely are exotic, and are all worth trying out. Service is totally friendly and relaxed. While we've always gone for lunch, we saw that they open at 8am and carry the full Columbian breakfast menu through the day.

I moved to Florida in July 2011 from Jackson Heights, Queens NYC. I was in the heart of all the great Colombian restaurants in NYC. If anyone knows Jackson Heights you would know of all the Colombian restaurants serving great Colombian food at a great price. One of the most popular places is called Pollo Marios. After moving here to Ft. Lauderdale I was having such a hard time finding a good Latin restaurant. When I read about Las Orquidas on Yelp I was eager to go there and give it a try. It not only reminded me of my old neighborhood in Queens NY but also reminded me of my Mom's cooking. Being Puerto Rican its hard to find a place that makes good Latin food that reminds you of Mom's cooking. This place definitely did the job. Im so glad I found this place online. I ordered the Bandeja Montanera which is called Bandeja Tipica at Pollo Marios in NYC. It definitely surpassed what I've had in Jackson Heights. I also ordered Cafe con Leche and a Flan de Caramelo it was absolutely delicious. The place was clean the waiters were polite and the service was super quick. I will definitely will be back and when my family and friends come to visit from NYC I will take them here.

This is a nice place to try some Colombian cuisine. They have great coffee, and the owner and staff are very friendly. The bandeja montanera is good, it comes with a grilled steak topped with a fried egg, rice & beans, chicharones, plantains, and arepa. The owner was nice enough to come and chat with us, and offer us a free dessert and coffee. Will definitely come again and get some good Colombian food and hospitality.

The best Latin food around. Simply delightful service, live music and scrumptious food. We thoroughly enjoyed the skirt steak and grilled chicken so much that we got them a second time! If you like spice, they have spectacular homemade salsa. They even sell it; so we bought a container to go! This place is stellar!

Good, clean place with awesome food. Service is also quick and courteous. Wish the music wasn't so loud (and clubby) but I guess it's a Latin thing. Only complaint is that the waiter doesn't come back to check on you. Almost had to grab her by the arm after 15 minutes to bring me the check.

  • Robin T.

Extremely disappointed after reading the reviews on this place. I had the arepa which was tasteless, a chicken empanadas which was very crunchy and without flavor and the "sweet plantains" which weren't soft enough and not sweet at all. A glutton for punishment, I ordered the flan de queso-mediocre at best. The service was VERY slow and the server spoke almost exclusively to my Spanish speaking friend. Don't waste your time or money here.

I really enjoy coming here for authentic Colombian food. The food is great and the waitresses are very nice. Their empanadas and pandebonos are delicious. My favorite is the chicken sandwhich, bandeja paisa, morcilla, arepas and ajiaco. Their guanabana and cafe con leche are yummy. No complaints here!

I love coming here. I always order the lunch special and have yet to be disappointed. Lunch is awesome because your order is out quickly. My favorite is Saturday soup special, they offer chicken or oxtail and you can't go wrong with either. Also the Aji sauce is addicting. The service matches the food =)

  • Kristina V.

I can't make up my mind which is worse the food or the service. Totally unfriendly and unprofessional staff. I came there today on July 24 with my husband. Well My Spanish is short. My husband is Colombian. Our server was a girl. She been talking only to him. No English at all. We ordered empanadas to start. She brought them with the stone face. No salsa.. Completely forgot! But the guy next table got it right away. The country plate was ok. We had a way better in NYC. Server never checked on the table. No water. The salt shaker was empty. At the end we asked for Fresh squeezed OJ. So they have a machine full of oranges and they keep felling on the floor but she kept taking them from the dirty floor and put them back in the machine. Really?? on top of everything we got our check and gratuity was included! Wtf? 2 people and gratuity ? It's not even legal in Florida !!!! Won't come back. P.s. The only good thing about this place is a life music.

Great place for Colombian food in the area. Over the years the quality has changed a bit (thinner chicken breasts change in portions) and they charge for silly things like extra sauce on your sudado. El sudado de maracuya is delicious! (Chicken stew with passion fruit sauce) yum! Can't miss the plantain soup either! Call ahead to find out if they have these items that day as they are usually specials.

What a lovely find. It's been here for years and I've always driven by. Simply furnished and spotlessly clean. I have been missing out. Had a guava cheese pastry and liver and onions. Both delicious. The waiter asked if this was our first time here and when told it was, brought us each a complimentary empanada. 1chicken and 1 beef. These were as good as I have had. Service is super friendly without be intrusive and very efficient. The menu is quite limited but prepared very well. The cook knows their way around a kitchen. You will not be disappointed in any way nor mwill your wallet take a beating as the prices are very reasonable.

Aborrejados= heaven in your mouth! I tried them for the first time and I fell in love! They are seeet plantains stuffed with mozarella cheese, breaded and fried! What else can you ask for??! The bandeja montañera was also excellent. Will come back with my parents and In-laws
